Using Video to Warm Up Your Subscribers

Yesterday I had an opportunity to do a small joint venture with fellow marketer and Alex Jeffreys student Tim Owen. I hadn’t spoken to Tim during the coaching period up until yesterday but I am really glad we had the chance to get acquainted.

Before presenting an offer to his subscriber list, Tim likes to “warm them up” a little first by briefly introducing his JV partner to them via video and that is what I want to blog about here.

This method is not something I have seen too much of before but it has the potential to be very powerful.

All it involved was myself and Tim connecting for a Skype call which he recorded. After a brief introduction, he allowed me to talk about my free ebook and explain the most important points which are covered inside.

The call was finished in less than four minutes and was completed in one take. As I have learned, these days “good enough is good enough”.

Tim then created a simple video, combining the audio from the call with a photograph of me (one of the few I own acceptable for promotional purposes!) and uploaded it to Youtube:

What I really like about this concept is Tim presents the video to both his email subscribers and readers of his blog the day before he runs the JV promotion.

This gives his subscribers the chance to get to know a little more about me first, put a face and a voice to the product rather than just be presented with some email copy and a hyperlink to click.

Hopefully this will mean more people will download my ebook!

The video is also on Youtube and has a link to my ebook’s squeeze page, so that should also generate some additional traffic and opt-ins.

This is a great method and one I am going to “borrow” off Tim for my own promotions in the future!

Let me know what you think about this method via the comments below!

    Hei from Norway David,

Sure like your blog post here sharing the “back story” of what we put together for you yesterday.

It was a pleasure doing it with you, and I know will benefit many others with all the experience and wisdom you have to share.

Look forward to what we can do together next!

All our love to you and yours. :-)

      Hi Tim,

Thanks for dropping by to leave a comment.

It was a really good idea to create the short call/video, I think it is really effective and something I’d like to get more involved with for various other promotions.

I look forward to collarborating with you on something in the near future!

    Hey David,
What a great idea. I really like the video and the interview. I really think that will help people connect with you before they download your product.

I’m on my way to check out Tim’s site now. I dig that idea!

      Hi Matt,

      It’s a great idea isn’t it?

So simple yet potentially so powerful.

I expect we’ll be seeing something similar to this from you soon ;-)

    Hey David,

Putting a face and a voice to your product is an amazing idea, people will instantly know who you are.

When they click on your link to your blog inside your ebook they already know who their dealing with.

Well done david and thanks for the great tip,

    Nick

      Hi Nick,

Don’t give me any credit for this, it was all Tim’s idea!

It’s a great concept and can help to connect with potential customers rather than just being another name on another webpage trying to get you to do something.

    Hey DW,

This is a very good promotional tactic for both the list and on the blog. It definitely puts that personal touch that a lot of promotional emails lack, hence the reason why many of us see it as “just the same ‘ol free ebook”.

This video also allows you to explain the ebook in the manner you wish to convey it, rather than have Tim Owen speak on behalf of you… which I’m sure he still would have done wonderfully! :)

Just as you said, I’ll also “borrow” this technique from you guys in my future promotions.

    Thanks!
    Joe

      Hi Joe,

With so many promotions taking place online, both free and paid, it needs something like this I think to make you stand out from the crowd.

Plus, it’s easy video content which is something I think we all need to be creating more of since the web seems to be going crazy for video these days!

    Hey David,

I really like this – it’s an excellent concept and the casual interview technique comes over really well.

Certainly something to do in due course.

So it’s simply an audio recording combined with a still photo, done in something like movie maker?

    Cheers my friend,

    Andrew.

      Hi Andrew,

I am glad you like the idea and it is as easy as you say it is.

Just add a photograph and an mp3 audio recording to your preferred movie software and you have something you can upload to Youtube or wherever else in a few minutes flat.

    David,

Man of man… You and Tim did a great thing… Got to keep track of this method for my own launch announced earlier today on my blog.

Had to listen to it all.

Thanks for nailing it down… the warming up the list concept.

    Cheers,

    Rob

      Hi Rob,

It’s a great concept I think we will see a lot more of.

I’d love to be in on your webinar but I am going to be on holiday so I really hope you make a recording of it so I can catch up when I return!

    Hey David,

    Cool idea, I like it!

Definitely something to bear in mind, I would be interested to know what kind of results this produces for you…

    Talk soon,

    David,

Your post reinforces a paradigm shift in today’s online marketing. More and more companies require video to stand above the detritus that exists in search results. By combining interactive video, email , sem, and seo, you instantly add credibility and depth to your online marketing.

Overlapping and staggering your online presence with video adds the personal touch to who you are and what you do.

Keep up the great work, we look forward to reading more posts.

    regards,

    The MarketSmith

    Hey David,

I’m not sure but I think this is my first visit to your blog although
I do know who you are.

You’re right, I haven’t come across this concept hardly at all but
I think it’s a great one. Definitely something I need to consider
    implementing in the future.

It must work because I just gave you my name and email for
    your ebook . ha! ha!

I just downloaded it and quickly read a few pages and I like what’s
on page 44 “There is NEVER “Nothing” to Blog About”.

I’ll have to finish the rest later after I finish writing this comment.

    Later,
    Jeff Sargent
