Another week has flown by so that means it’s time for Something for the Weekend. For the first time in six weeks this post is not completely dominated by content from fellow students on the Alex Jeffreys coaching program. There has been a significant reduction in the number of student posts over the past few weeks so I hope they are not running out of steam. However, seven of the 10 blog posts mentioned here are from students so come on guys, give me a reason to include you here!
On Tuesday night I, as well as many other students were priveliged to be on a live webinar with “Guru to the Guru’s” Rich Schefren. As you know, I am on Rich’s GPS coaching program and his guidance has helped me out a lot during the early stages of getting my new business up and running.
Unsurprisingly, there was a fair bit of content generated as a result of Rich’s webinar and I am going to write the first of a series of blog posts based around it myself next week.
Iain Buchanan wrote a huge post about Rich, the webinar and the recently launched Founders Club. I joined the FC as well but only at the lowest level of $47 a month. I will write about this another time. However, from what Iain wrote, he is going to join, or at least wants to join, at the highest tier of $397 per month! Let us know how that goes!
There were two other posts this week that were inspired by the webinar, the first being Josh Bartlett on How to Become a Master. Josh opened his post with the phrase “Jack of all trades, master of none”, exactly the same as how I described myself in my very first post on this blog. Josh argues you should try and tie anything you do online back to your core area of expertise which is some great advice.
Heidi Passey wrote about the constraints she faces on a daily basis. Personally, after going through Rich’s coaching, I would argue they are distractions rather than business constraints but the fact Heidi has identified them means she can now take steps to eliminate them and spend more time working on her business.
One man making great strides in his business is Joe Fier who this week released his ebook, Your Slick Startup. In what has to be the best looking ebook I have read for a long time, Joe goes into great detail on how to start your online business up the right way. A lot of the coaching content has gone into the guide so if you haven’t read it yet, make sure you download a copy because it is a great refresher.
After rushing to get my video entry for the competition completed, my mentor Alex Jeffreys has only given everyone a two week extension! One student who has a great chance of winning is Alan Harris, who has used every special effect trick in the book to produce his entry. Well done, Alan, this must have taken you days to finish.
One student who is really coming into his own with his blog posts is Mick Fallon. He made the list last week and he has done so again with yet another great post. This week, he asks whether internet marketing is just another bandwagon and draws comparison with his other business interest – property.
The final student to make this list this week is Rob Willis who revealed five powerful mind success strategies. A positive mindset is key to succeeding in business and Rob outlines five ways to prevent yourself from waking up exhilarated and going to bed exhausted and frustrated.
The first non-student contribution for several weeks is from Neil Patel who wrote a comprehensive piece on how to market your business for free. The student blog traffic competition may have ended but this is a great compilation of methods to drive traffic and worth reading if you are struggling to attract visitors.
One thing which annoys me about blogs is the number of crappy comments you receive on your posts. One liners such as “Great Post!” or “Thanks for this!” etc, are usually sent to the trash can as soon as I read them because they offer neither me nor other readers anything of value. Larry Brooks wrote about how to grow your blog through better commenting and it’s an article everyone should read if they plan to comment on other people’s blogs.
Finally, Darren Rowse revealed he earned around $60,000 in the past 12 months by promoting Amazon products as an affiliate. Having a hugely popular and powerful industry blog is of course a contributing factor to such success but it goes to show what can be achieved and he has written a series of blog posts on how he earned such an amount.
What do you think? A good selection this week or have I missed something more deserving out? Let me know via the comments below!

Hi David,
I follow your blog regular, but one thing I have noticed is you seem to be joining coaching programs.
I am wondering how much you are spending each month in order to earn money!
I am Skint (see my blog) and I am curious if the investments in coaching and systems you are making are paying off.
Thanks
)
Skint (Fellow Bluebird Fan
Hey,
Nice to have you on board, fellow Bluebirds fan.
I have joined a few coaching programs, I got Rich Schefren’s GPS 2.0 and Alex Jeffreys’ program on a “2-for-1″ type offer and I think they have both been worth the money. Just take a look at some of my early blog posts to see what impact Rich had on the way I changed my attitutde and approach to my online business.
Alex’s coaching will be worth tens of thousands of dollars, or even more, in terms of the lifetime friendships I have made with fellow students and the joint ventures we will collaborate on.
I have now invested money with Rich Schefren again, with his Founders Club program and at $47 I don’t believe I can lose. Every big name in IM you can think of has been mentored by Rich – his name is associated with success – if he’s good enough for the likes of Mike Filsaime, Joel Comm, Alex Jeffreys (of course) and pretty much every other multi millionaire marketer on the planet then he is good enough for little old me!
If you are serious about making money with internet marketing, as opposed to just “liking the idea” then you need to understand people do business with people, not websites. I noticed on your blog you have not had much luck with it so far so here’s a tip – let people know who you are!
Put your real name and a photo of yourself online so people can see who they are dealing with. I have just written this lengthy reply to a GHOST. While I am happy to do this and try and set you on the right path, do you think I would do business with you at this precise time? HELL NO! I do not even have a name to work with, let alone a face!
Download my free ebook and get yourself a proper blog set up. Don’t bleat about having no money – it’s going to take a minimal investment if you are to be taken seriously and keep following what I am doing here!
I will do whatever I can to help you but I cannot do this if I do not know who I am trying to help!
David
Hi David,
Thanks for the reply.
I fully understand the importance of revealing your identity online and hadn’t realized that in my blogger profile I hadn’t ticked the show real name option (Now Done). My name is Leigh Baker.
Unfortunately I have to bleat on about having no money because I don’t have any. I wasted a lot of money when I first started, I Googled Make Money Online and I ended up on endless lists from people selling me the latest big launch which I fell for and lost my savings because I foolishly thought I was spending money on my future (a so called investment).
I dont come to the IM world with money to spend on Mentors and Coaching and have to start at rock bottom. Im using blogger for a reason – its free. Im trying to write some PLR on a topic I know, in order to raise $100 to get me started.
I will continue to follow your blog and look forward to picking up any advice you give.
Thanks again.
Leigh
Hey David,
Thanks for the mention in this post, I felt that the post I wrote was very close to my heart because it was something I naturally struggle with. (Focus on one core area, as I have so many things I could do and so many ideas)
I really enjoy your something for the weekend series of posts and think its a great idea. Its always nice to read this (I usually read it at the start of the week) over my morning coffee before I jump into all the tasks at hand.
You are doing some great stuff here, I also really like your new video opt in pop up.. Way to go!! (Embrace the power of video!!)
Let me know what you think about lesson one at the Videomarketingclassroom.com, its done now.. Its a simple intro to the course but id value your feedback bro.
Anyway, great post, its nice to see the development on this blog and how you are taking it from strength to strength, its your blog I look at to motivate me to make mine better
Speak soon,
Josh
Hey Josh,
Thanks for leaving such a great comment!
I find the writing side of things quite easy and I am happy with the way the blog is developing but video? Well, that’s another matter entirely!
I am getting a bit more confident in front of the camera but it is still takes a long time to even get a minute or so of video “good enough” to upload. I am really looking forward to your VMC, I think it is going to be invaluable to those of us who still wish it was 1999 and online video was not even an issue
I will watch your intro video later today and let you know how I get on with it.
David
Great Post David! Thanks for this!
- Gil
just kidding
I hate those types of comments myself. It’s much like talking to a boring person that has no interest in you and yawns a “great job” sort of a comment. Naturally fate has set me up with tons of these co-workers in my day job, but let’s not get into that.
I think investing time in anything Rich Schefren produces is a great way to go. He talks about things that aren’t sexy but he knows exactly what he’s talking about. If you want to build a BUSINESS, he’s the go to guy.
And you my friend, are going from strength to strength. The popup you get when visiting your blog is the best I’ve seen and actually makes you WANT to optin right then and there. That’s no small feat to manage. It’s amazing and I wish you share how you do it with the rest of us.
- Gil
Hi Gil,
Thank you for the kind words!
I am glad you like the popup, it has made a positive impact on my opt-ins over the past few days so I am really pleased with that.
Haha, there is no real secret and I wouldn’t say I am anywhere near the level I want to be in front of camera just yet. In fact, the opt in video took about half an hour of solid retakes before I managed to get it to a standard I believed to be “good enough” to put online.
Have you signed up top Josh’s Video Marketing Classroom? There will be loads of good information there to help us both improve the video side of our businesses.
