This is the third in a series of blog posts based around the incredible webinar hosted by Rich Schefren. Having covered both setting up an online business and looking at your entrepreneurial ability, the third aspect under the microscope is your ability to learn and apply. Three topics are covered in today’s post which should get you thinking the right way about the information you encounter and how you can speed up your learning by hours every day.
1. Just in Time vs Just in Case
This is something I have been guilty of myself. When you are buying a new information product or training program, are you buying in because it is important to your business or are you buying it “just in case” you need it?
Where a lot of people go wrong is they buy every “faddy” product under the sun and then sit in front of their computers, scratching their heads wondering how to incorporate all of this (often unrelated and irrelevant) information into a business.
I have loads of products sitting on my hard drive that I thought I needed, only to be disappointed to find out I didn’t need the information at all, or perhaps worse, did not even bother reading them full stop.
What you should do, of course, is build your business and then if there are any gaps in your knowledge relating to it, that is when a product can be valuable to you. When you do this, you are more likely to take action on the product you have purchased.
You should also appreciate information products on the internet have a short shelf-life. If you buy something today and don’t get around to reading it for six months, then the chances are the information will be outdated by the time you are ready to take action.

2. Understanding Your Brain
The way your memory works is by relationships. When you learn some new information you should think about how it fits in to what you already know or what you are currently doing.
By doing this, you force your brain to make a connection. If you can make different connections between the different types of information then you will be able to make that information your own.
This, Rich argues, is why Mind Mapping is so powerful because you can draw relationships between the information and it is these relationships which help you retain and apply.

3. Rapid Learning Secrets
It is possible to increase your the speed to which you learn by hundreds of percent. The trick to training your brain to be able to do this is directly related to your willingness to not be able to do this at first!
Sounds crazy, right? But, the thinking behind this is to speed things up and eventually allow your brain to catch up with what you are doing. You can achieve this the following ways:
- Speed Listening. Any MP3 can be listened to at high speed and there are options to do this in Windows Media Player and in Quicktime. It’s probable you could listen to any piece of audio at double speed and you would understand every word. Therefore, you could listen to a two hour audio webinar in one hour! You can listen to audio at even greater speeds if you allow yourself to not be able to understand at first. So, if you listen to a piece of audio at 300% for three minutes and not comprehend what is being said, if you then lower it to 250%, you will find you understand it. If you went directly to 250% you probably wouldn’t be able to understand it.Over time, you can train your brain to comprehend information at faster speeds if you are willing to push yourself in the beginning and accept you cannot understand at a certain speed, but then lower it slightly, giving your brain a chance to catch up.
- Speed Reading. There are tools online which allow you to scroll words across your screen. You can take any document, web page etc and have it scroll a little faster than you can comprehend. After a few minutes you will find you can keep up with it.Similar to the speed listening, if you increase the speed so you cannot comprehend it, but then lower it but making sure it is still faster than what you could comprehend previously, you will be able to train yourself to read at faster and faster speeds.
- Speed Watching. You can watch video at high speed and again you should be able to watch video at double speed. You could even watch the video twice in the same time it would take you to watch it once in normal speed and the information would sink in that much faster.
Rich attributes being able to produce high quality content and products faster than his competitors due to his ability to absorb information multiple times faster than them.
If you want to be able to crank out quality product after quality product then you will not want to miss the next post, which focuses on being able to create killer products rapidly!

Awesome post.
I can identify with the waste of money on products I haven’t looked at.
Speed Listening – Really interested to learn more on this, sounds an interesting concept. (maybe a new niche
)
Hi Leigh,
I think everyone has gone through the buying-and-not-even-reading phase on the internet. I guess it’s how the the “guru’s” make the majority of their money and they don’t really have any competition because people are not taking action on the products they paid for!
David
Hey my friend,
Another excellent post. Puts a little detail on the Rich Schefren webinar – which lets face it, he delivered at 100 miles an hour.
David – how does one listen to a webinar audio on the founders club site faster?
Perhaps downloading it to your computer and then ‘open with’ Windows Media Player?
Not sure.
Talk soon,
Andrew.
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for leaving a comment.
If there is provision to download the webinars from the Founders Club website then you should be able to tinker with the sound speed in whatever software you use to listen to it.
David
Ay-ay-ay David,
You’ve captured the entire 2 hour call with Rich Schefren in this post.
And you’ve outdone yourself this time with the remarkable pictures.
This post is like a complete mini course on building online business correctly.
Well done
-Gil
Hi Gil,
I am glad you are enjoying the posts.
I may well repurpose these posts into a free report or something to give some amazing value to would-be internet marketers!
David
Hey David,
Excellent post!
Then again being a student of almighty Rich Shcefren myself, I wouldn’t expect any less of you and I have noticed before how well articulated you are.
Well done for taking the lead in showing our fellow AJs’ students some of the concepts Rich teaches in a different light and perhaps a bit clearer than Rich himself to them.
I am going through the Acceleration program right now and will let you know how I get on with it. On GPS1 we only had access to it after the training was finished, so I am not quite sure whether you have access to it already or not. But I would also recommend you not to attempt to go through it right now.
You must not be in learning mode with any other courses while doing that. So you would benefit better concentrating on AJ and Rich’s training right now, which is quite a lot already!
Well done my friend, well done.
Lot’s of love,
Sandra
In Joy With My Self
Hi Sandra,
Thank you for leaving me such a lovely comment, it’s much appreciated
I took a break from Rich’s GPS program, got about half way through but will be looking to pick that up again in the next few weeks or so.
I have also joined the Founders Club so will have plenty of webinars etc. to get stuck into!

I am just getting started. As it is I’m an information junkie and the world of internet marking has only made it worse! I’m a teacher, so I’ve used the concept of mind mapping for a long time, but the other two items were both something that I really needed to hear. I need to pull that photo reading course back out and stop getting every new free book I see. I’m already on enough lists.
Glad I signed up to yours though, and I’ll definitely move your book to the top of my stack (cyber-stack that is.)
You have a nice easy reading style that make it a pleasure to read your posts.

Hi Susan,
Thank you for comment. I am glad you enjoy what I am doing here, it means I am doing something right!
A lot of people have done exactly what you have done, been on hundreds of list and spent lots of money on ebooks, software etc they will never use. You just need to step back and work out a real business plan!
Keep reading, I will share as much as I can with you to help you start out on the right track!
